BREEDER AWARDS
In 2008, the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development
Fund paid $6,817,331 to breeders of registered New York-breds.
A breeder is the owner of a mare at the time she foals in New York State.
Breeder awards are determined based on the covering stallion. If a New
York-bred is by a registered New York-based stallion, the award is up
to 20% of the purse earned for a first place finish and up to 10% for
a second or third place finish. If the New York-bred is by an out-of-state
or non-registered stallion, the award is up to 10% for a first place finish
and up to 5% for a second or third place finish. All breeder awards are
capped at $10,000 per horse, per race.

STALLION OWNER AWARDS
In 2008, the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development
Fund distributed $2,133,913 in stallion owner awards. These awards
are paid to owners of registered New York-based (at the time of conception)
covering stallions at up to 7% of purses earned from finishes in first
through third positions. All stallion owner awards are capped at $10,000
per horse, per race.

OPEN OWNER AWARDS
In 2008, the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development
Fund paid $1,388,649 to owners of registered New York-breds who
earned purse money in open-company races. The owner award for a registered
New York-bred sired by a registered New York-based stallion is up to 20%
of purses earned from finishes in first through third positions in races
run for a claiming price of $30,000 and upward, with a cap of $20,000
per horse, per race. If a New York-bred is by an out-of-state or non-registered
stallion, the award is up to 10% of purses earned from finishes in first
through third positions in races run for a claiming price of $30,000
and upward, with a cap of $20,000 per horse, per race.

RACES FOR NEW YORK-BREDS
Annually, over 45 stakes races are run at New York Racing Association
racetracks (Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park, and Saratoga Race Course)
and Finger Lakes Racetrack exclusively for registered New York-breds,
with total purses of over $4 million. In 2008, over 1,000 overnight
races were run exclusively for registered New York-breds at New York racetracks.
