A sweep of the first installment of the New York Stallion Stakes Series by progeny of Freud (Franny Freud and General Maximus), not to mention a 1-2-3 finish for his offspring in the Park Avenue Division, certainly got the attention of Elaine Belval, Senior Pedigree Analyst at Werk Thoroughbred Consultants, Inc., one of the oracles in thoroughbred pedigree analysis.
In an article which appeared on Saturday in the “Who’s Hot, Who’s Not” section of the company’s website (“Freud’s Dream Weekend”), Belval had nothing but praise for Freud’s continuing success as a sire – and eye-catching statistics to back that praise up. Most striking are Freud’s 7% stakes winners overall and over $60,000 average earnings per starter which, as she points out, is almost ten times his current stud fee ($6,500).
Freud, leading New York Sire in 2008 and 2009, currently sits third in the state stallion rankings behind Posse and Repent, who relocated to New York in 2010.
