Dear Breeders:
Before turning to my main message on Belmont Day 2010, I’d like to pass along some breaking news. It was reported late yesterday that Meyer “Sandy” Frucher has been forced to resign from his position as NYC OTB Chairman. For a story from the Blood-Horse, click here. I will keep you posted about developments as the situation unfolds.
My main subject today, however, is VLTs. The Saratoga meet is fast approaching and, with it, the Fasig-Tipton Preferred Yearling Sale on August 7-8. As you probably know, the Lottery is scheduled to announce its recommendation of an Aqueduct VLT operator to legislative leaders on August 3. You don’t need me to tell you how critical the timing of this announcement is for the success of this year’s sale. It is of the utmost importance that (1) the Lottery makes its recommendation on time and (2) the legislative leaders move rapidly on that recommendation.
Therefore, I urge you to contact your senators and representatives, Governor Paterson, Senate Majority Conference Leader John Sampson and House Speaker Sheldon Silver and let them all know how important this issue is to you.
Click here for a sample letter you can send to legislators which explains the need for expedited action.

The NYTB Board and I carried this message to Albany this past week. We met with elected officials, talked about the importance of the selection of an Aqueduct VLT operator to breeders, and addressed other important breeder issues, such as the revenue from NYC OTB that the Fund depends on. The more legislators and their staff see of us, the better, and the same applies to their being contacted by you. That is also why I, once again, want to stress how important it is for you to send letters and emails to your elected representatives and make your voice heard.
Finally, I had the opportunity to bring the breeders’ message about NYC OTB to the listening public on Thursday, via an appearance on Steve Byk’s Sirius Thoroughbred Racing Radio Network Broadcast “At the Races” along with NYTHA President Rick Violette. Sincerely yours,

Jeff thanks again for the fine job you continue to do. This thing will be reversed and in the end we will prevail.
