(7/3/09) Laurie's Lion wires seven in $21,700 feature

Mark Valentine's LAURIE'S LION broke sharply and never looked back to take today's $21,700 featured seventh race by three and one-half lengths. Laurie's Lion was haltered three races back for a mere $4,000. Since that nice claim, the Sal Iorio Jr's trained runner ran with NW1X twice going short and finished second both times. Today's test was for three year olds and upward which had never won a state-bred other than with Laurie's Lion the one to beat as the $1.35 to 1 choice. Also in good form at $2.35 to 1 was Langpap Stable's Barossa. Trained by M. Anthony Ferraro, Barossa finished second with NW1X to I'll Make It Up at five and one-half furlongs. Laurie's Lion with Dean Frates aboard, got his mount to break on top and the pair got the first quarter in 22.00. Tracking second was Barossa and had a length and one-half to make-up with the half mile clocked in 45.10. Laurie's Lion reached the eighth pole with a two length advantage while Lapin was making his move on the outside. Laurie's Lion was never threatened and went on to win by three and one-half lengths over Lapin in second. Barossa weakened and checked in third. Laurie's Lion covered the distance over a sealed good track in 1:11.69 and earned 13,020. Bred by Martin F. Scheinman, the four year old gelded son of Catienus out of A Shaky Queen by Wavering Monarch now had seven career wins out of only 14 starts and sports a bankroll of $82,995. Also the front-running winner qualified for $2,604.00 in breeders' awards.

(6/30/09) Boston Chief scores in wide-open $19,700 NW4L

Francis J. Paolangeli's BOSTON CHIEF took dead aim on the leader leaving the eighth pole, gained the lead and then turned back Phobia to take today's wide-open $19,700 sixth race by a head. Trained by Charlton Baker, Boston Chief has only started three times this year with a record of two seconds and a fifth place with NW1X going six furlongs. In that state-bred race, Boston Chief contested the lead to midstretch and then weakened to miss by five lengths to the good now California Gold. Today's contest at five and one-half furlongs was for wide-open three year olds and upward which have never won four races with Laura Young's Doc Can Do the .75 cents on the dollar choice. Trained by M. Anthony Ferraro, Doc Can Do tracked throughout in his last with similar going six furlongs as the chalk but was no match for runaway winner Otter Island. Lakeview Bar D Farm's Eastlake was hustled to the front by Gabriel Suarez and stopped the timer for the quarter in 21.70. Eastlake continued on setting the fractions and got the half mile in 45.06 and a two and one-length advantage over Boston Chief. Boston Chief was eased out some in the lane while Phobia was making his run on the outside. Boston Chief collared Eastlake leaving the eighth pole and then under strong handling from Dennis Carr the duo got the job done by a head. Phobia finished second by three-quarters of a length over the wide rallying Doc Can Do in third. Boston Chief covered the distance over a sealed sloppy track in 1:05.50 and earned $11,820. Bred by Kirk Kneller & Lucas Marquardt, the four year old gelded son of Chief Seattle out of Gone to Boston by Mr. Greeley now has four career wins out of only 11 starts and $41,241 in money won. Also, the solid performer qualified for $1,182.00 breeders' awards.

(6/29/09) Spa Princess wins for fun in $21,700 feature

Maggie Moss' SPA PRINCESS took the lead from the outset and never looked back to capture today's $21,700 featured sixth race by three and one-quarter lengths. Trained by leading conditioner Chris Englehart, this was the four year old fillies second straight score. In her last tally, the daughter of Desert Warrior bested a field of 7 never won three allowance types by almost four lengths. Today's contest at six furlongs was restricted to fillies and mares which had never won a state-bred race other than. Seven rivals broke from the gate with Spa Princess the odds on chalk at .45 cents on the dollar. Also taking money at $2.35 to 1 was M. Anthony Ferraro's owned and trained Abby Morgan. Abby Morgan rallied to finish third beaten a neck in her last to Nantasket going six furlongs. Spa Princess quickly disposed of her field and got the opening quarter in 22.74. The Englehart trainee continued on the Bill Daily and reached the quarter pole with 2 a length advantage over Abby Morgan. The half mile was clocked in 46.00. Davila aboard Spa Princess never asked and the pair went on to win in handy fashion by just over three lengths. Abby Morgan finished clearly second best by six lengths over Celtic Kettle in third. Spa Princess covered the distance over a fast track in 1:10.25 and earned $13,020. Bred by Natanya, John, Michael and Kate McMahon, the four year old filly by Desert Warrior out of Ana Mae by Quiet American now has four career wins out of 21 starts and $106,616 in money won. Also, the good now filly qualified for $1,302.00 breeders' awards.

(6/28/09) Fifty Sense scores in $22,600 feature

John A. Salvato's FIFTY SENSE kicked into gear to take the lead and then drew clear late to take today's $22,600 featured eighth race by a length and one-half. Trained by Brian E. McCall, Fifty sense was haltered by his new connections back on May 19 for a mere $4,000. Since that claim, the six year old gelding by Gold Token has run four times with a record of 1 win, 2 seconds and a troubled trip fourth place finish. Today's contest at one mile and seventy yards was restricted to three year olds and upward which have never won two state-bred races other than or entered for a $10,000 claiming tag. Nine rivals were set to go with Michael A. Lecesse's owned and trained entry of Wesniak and Embrace Life the choice at $1.35 to 1. Wesniak was coming off a powerful performance in his last with conditioned $4,000 claimers going one mile and seventy yards. In that test on June 5 at one mile and seventy yards, the eight year old gelded son of Sea Salute, took charge after a half mile and then turned it on to score by almost 18 lengths while stopping the timer in 1:42.86. Majestic Joy and Tsunamic broke together and got the first fraction in 24.39. Majestic Joy shook loose some up the backstretch and got the half mile in 48.45. Stylish Tiger was making his move on the last turn and collared Majestic Joy at the top of the lane while stopping the timer for six furlongs in 1:13.26. In the meantime, Fifty Sense was angled out into the lane for clear sailing. Majestic Joy and Stylish Tiger reached the eighth pole heads apart with Embrace Life in a striking position a length back. Embrace Life collared the leaders while Fifty Sense was in gear on the far outside. Fifty Sense ran on by Embrace Life to get the money by a length and one-half. Embrace Life finished second three-quarters of a length over Stylish Tiger in third. Fifty Sense covered the distance over a sealed fast track in 1:45.28 and earned $13,560. Bred by Michael Spielman, the five year old gelding by Gold Token out of Forty'n Fabulous by Inherent Star now has 10 career wins out of 50 starts and $119,427 in money won. Also the fast closing runner qualified for $2,712.00 in breeders' awards.

(6/26/09) Warm Country takes wide-open $19,600 feature

Michael Haers' WARM COUNTRY tracked throughout and then outran Informa to the wire to take today's wide-open $19,600 featured eighth race by a half length. Trained by Charlton Baker, Warm Country shipped in two races back and finished a game second at five furlongs with never won 2 allowance types. The 3 year old filly by Northern Afleet came right back with never won 3 allowance foes at six furlongs and again finished second. Today's contest at one mile and seventy yards was for wide-open fillies and mares which have never won two races. Seven rivals including Charlton Bakers trained entry of Warm Country and Informa were the chalk at .35 cents on the dollar. Also taking action at $3.65 to 1 was Just Another Story. Trained by John Lana, Just Another Story finished second in her last with conditioned $12,500 claimers at five and one-half furlongs. Just Another Story broke well and got the first quarter in 23.24 and then the half mile in 46.63. Warm Country was stalking on the final turn with the six furlongs clocked in 1:12.17. Just Another Story looked home-free but Warm Country and Informa still had a chance. Warm Country collared Just Another Story late and then outran Informa to score by a half length. Informa bested Just Another Story by a nose to earn the place. Warm Country covered the distance over a sealed fast track in 1:45.48 and earned $11,760. Bred by Stonebridge Farm, the three year old filly by Northern Afleet out of Ms Global Warming by Sultry Song now has two career wins out of 10 starts and $50,670 in money won. Also, the hard knocking runner qualified for $1,276.00 in breeders' awards.

(6/23/09) Walk the Catwalk takes $22,200 NW1X at 25 to 1

Let go at odds of 25 to 1, Luis Gutierrez's owned and trained WALK THE CATWALK collared his entry mate in midstretch and then outran Galaxy Express to the line to take today's $22,200 featured eighth race by three-quarters of a length. Walk the Catwalk wascoming out of a $4,000 claiming event going one mile and seventy yards where he finished fifth beaten almost seven lengths. Prior to that race, the five year old gelding by Tactical Cat ran with NW1X where he checked midway on the first turn going long and finished sixth. Today's contest at one mile and seventy yards was for three year olds and upward which had never won a state-bredrace other than. Eight rivals including two trained entry's were set to go with Acclaimed Racing Stable's Trimphal the 4 to 5 choice. Trained by Michael A. Lecesse, Triumphal was in search of his third straight win here. The five year old gelding by Successful Appeal got his win streak started on May 22 when he drew off late to best a group of never won two allowance types by almost two lengths. The Lecesse trainee came back with never won three rivals and wired a field of six by four and three-quarter lengths. This will be Triumphal's first try around two turns. Triumphal and Walk the Catwalk got the first quarter in 23.64. Walk the Catwalk dropped back after that and entry mate No Halo On Me forced Triumphal to keep an honest pace with the half mile clicked off in 47.53. No Halo On Me took charge on the final bend with Triumphal a length and one-half chasing in second. The six furlongs went down in 1:12.77. Meanwhile, Walk the Catwalk was angled to the outside for his run. Walk the Catwalk collared No Halo On Me in midstretch and under the whip outran Galaxy Express to get the money by three-quarters of a length. Dancing Robbins checked in third. Walk the Catwalk got the one mile and seventy yard distance in 1:45.65 and earned $13,320. (6/22/09) I'll Make It Up ships in and makes it 4 straight in $21,700 feature

Michael Imperio's I'LL MAKE IT UP took the overland route into the lane and then drove clear to keep his win skein intact intoday's $21,700 featured eighth race by a length and three-quarters. I'll Make It Up got the ball rolling at Tampa Downs when the gelded son of Precise End destroyed a field of $8,000 maidens by six lengths. The Ralph D'Alessandro trained runner cameright back with never won two races with $8,000 claiming tags and dusted a field of 9 by just over nine lengths. I'll Make It Up climbed the ladder at Presque Isle Downs to the $16,000 level and again proved clearly the best by five lengths. Today'scontest at five and one-half furlongs was for three year olds and upward which have never won a state-bred race other than. Nine foes were ready to go with Ron Cabrijan's Lapin the choice at $1.90 to 1 over $2.05 to 1 I'll Make It Up. Lapin comesinto this race with only two starts for the year. The Englehart trainee finished second in his first try of the year with similar and then came back to run third at the same level. J T Moore broke in stride and opened up a quick length over Video Chip with the first fraction clocked in 22.27. Video Chip and Barossa collared J T Moore at the top of the lane and three entered the straight heads apart. The half mile went in 46.28. Meanwhile, I'll Make It Up was parked seven wide into the stretch and appeared ready to pounce at any time. Video Chip, Barossa and I'll Make It Up reached the eighth together with a gap of length back to the favorite Lapin. I'll Make It Up responded to the stroke of Dennis Carr's whip and the duo drew clear to get the money by almost two lengths. Barossa finished second three and one-half lengths over Lapin in third. I'll Make It Up covered the distance over a fast strip in 1:05.50 and earned $13,020. Bred by Sez Who Thoroughbreds, the five year old gelded son of Precise End out of Wish Alert by Gold Alert now has four career wins out of only 15 starts and $49,370 in money won. (6/21/09) Pygmalion holds on stubbornly to take $22,100 feature

West Point Thoroughbreds' PYGMALION gained a slim lead in midstretch and under strong handling turned back Cured to take today's $22,100 featured eighth race by a neck. Ridden to victory by John Davila Jr, Pygmalion was coming off a fading try with similar going six furlongs on June 7. Prior to that race, the four year old gelding by Freud wired a field of never won four allowance types at five and one-half furlongs by four and one-half lengths. Today's test at five and one-half furlongs was for three year olds and upward which have never won two state-bred races other than or entered for a claiming tag of $10,000. Eight rivals were set to go with Pygmalion the 3 to 2 favorite. Also taking action at $2.95 to 1 was Joseph E. Besecker's Rule Seventy Six. Rule Seventy Six was coming off a solid runner-up to runaway winner C T Chimes. Also, in that race Rule Seventy Six finished three lengths in front of today's favorite Pygmalion. Cured with Jose Osorio up, quickly put a length on the field with the first quarter clocked in 22.40. Pro's Pal collared Cured from the inside while Pygmalion challenged on the outside with the six furlongs going down in 46.00. Pygmalion and Cured reached the eighth pole heads apart with Rule Seventy Six three lengths back and appearing to be in gear. Pygmalion responded to the whip and outran Cured and Rule Seventy Six to get the money by a neck. Rule Seventy Six finished third beaten a neck and a nose for all of it. Pygmalion covered the sealed sloppy track in 1:05.44 and earned $13,260. Bred by Thomas/Lakin, the four year old gelding by Freud out of Lavish Numbers by Polish Numbers now has 5 career wins out 16 starts and $126,740 in the bank. (6/20/09) Kiss and Fly proves best in $22,200 feature

Island Wind Racing's KISS AND FLY put Runnin On Guilt away in upper stretch and then was under wraps late to take today's $22,200 featured eighth race by two and one-quarter lengths. Trained by Chris Englehart, Kiss and Fly shipped in here from Belmont Park and has had a trip over this oval on June 8. That test was at six furlongs with NW1X going six furlongs. In that dash, Kiss and Fly stumbled at the start, made a run into the lane and then hung to finish fourth. Prior to arriving here, the three year old filly had raced 9 times this year with 2 wins, 2 thirds out 9 starts and $64,000 in earnings. Today's test at one mile and seventy yards was restricted to fillies and mares which have never won a state-bred race other than. The race scratched down to four with Ravenwood Stable and Seidman Stable's Runnin On Guilt the choice at 4 to 5 over 9 to 5 Kiss and Fly. Runnin On Guilt was shipping in here forher start after besting a field of maiden state-bred $25,000 claimers over a sloppy Belmont Park track by just over three lengths. Runnin On Guilt with Dennis Carr got the first fraction in 25.23 with Kiss and Fly a length back. The half went in 50.23 with Kiss and Fly a half length to the outside of Runnin On Guilt. The two leaders matched strides on the final turn with the six furlongs going in 1:15.13. Kiss and Fly gave Runnin On Guilt the slip in upper stretch and opened up three lengths with a furlong to go. Meanwhile, Lotta T L C was making a run along the inside. Kiss and Fly was never threatened and went on to win by just over two lengths with Lotta T L C getting up for the place over Runnin On Guilt. Kiss and Fly covered the distance over a very sloppy track in 1:46.10 and earned $13,320. Bred by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, LLC., the three year old filly by Desert Warrior out of Karakorum Kiss by Lord Carson now has 4 career scores out of 13 starts and $96,420 in money won. (6/19/09) Democrat upsets at 6 to 1 in $23,100 feature

Charlton Baker's owned and trained DEMOCRAT took the lead in midstretch and then turned back Waltz to the Blues to take today's $23,100 featured eighth by a half length. Democrat has raced twice this year at the $20,000 claiming level with a second place finish in his debut then finished off the board in his most recent. Today's contest at five and one-half furlongs was restricted to three year olds and upward which had never won three state-bred races other than or entered for a claiming tag of $15,000. Seven rivals were set to go with Joan and Albert V Hanley's C T Chimes the choice at 3 to 2 to make it three straight wins. C T Chimes drew off in his last to post a two length score with NW2X and then prior to that downed a field of NW1X by almost four lengths. Haven Oaks Stable's Lake Butler broke alertly and opened up a quick length over Waltz to the Blues while getting the first quarterin 22.08. Lake Butler padded that lead by a length and entered the straight with half mile clocked in 45.61. Meanwhile, Democrat was taking up the chase and was let loose by Nazario Alvarado. The pair collared Lake Butler with a furlong to go taking charge and under steady pressure outran Waltz to the Blues to score by a half length. Lake Butler weakened but finished well enough to take the show. C T Chimes never could get a hold of the off going and finished fourth. Democrat covered the distance over a sealed sloppy track in 1:04.60 and earned $13,860. Bred by John A Nerud Revocable Trust, the six year old gelding by A. P. Jet out of Comedy of Errors by Colonial Affair now has 7 career wins out of 21 starts and $184,293 in money won. Also, the solid runner qualified for $2,772.00 in breeders' awards.

(6/15/09) Returnto Karakorum holds on to win $22,100 feature

Sheila J. Englehart's RETURNTO KARAKORUM turned back all challengers to take today's $22,100 featured eighth race by a neck. Trained by Chris Englehart, Returnto Karakorum scored in her first trip over this year on April 18 in wire-to-wire fashion with never won three races carrying $7,500 claiming tags. The four year old filly by Say Florida Sandy came right back on April 28 with better and again made every pole a winning one. Today's contest was restricted to fillies and mares which had never won two state-bred races other than or entered for a claiming price of $10,000. Five fillies and mares were set go with recently claimed Fat Guys Stable's Salt City Miss the 3 to 5 choice. Salt City Miss was claimed for a mere $4,000 in her last where she destroyed a field ten by 15 lengths going five and one-half furlongs. Returnto Karakorum broke well and contested the lead to the outside of Salt City Miss and Rockin Sarah along the fence. The first quarter was clocked in 22.51. Rockin Sarah dropped back while Salt City Miss and Returnto Karakorum were going at it with the half mile clicked off in 46.33. Meanwhile, Western Lariat was making her move and was only a length back in third. Returnto Karakorum held a half length lead over Western Lariat with a furlong to go and looked like the latter might go on by. But Returnto Karakorum dug in and under the whip of John Davila turned back Western Lariat to score by a neck. Salt City Miss finished third. Returnto Karakorum covered the distance over a fast track in 1:05.82 and earned $13,260. Bred by Tea Party Stable's Inc., the four year old filly by Say Florida Sandy out of Return to Me by Polish Numbers now has five career wins out of 17 tries and $78,348 in money won. Also, the winning speedster qualified for $1,326.00 in breeders' awards.

BOB'S DYLAN

Blue Star Stable's BOB'S DYLAN quickly disposed of her field and then was never threatened to take the 30th running of the $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap by three lengths. Trained by Michael S. Ferraro, Bob's Dylan was coupled with Afleet Alexander who finished strongly to earn the place. Bob's Dylan just missed in her last at Presque Isle Downs with wide-open $50,000 claimers going six furlongs on May 30. Prior to that solid effort, the Ferraro trained runner was sitting on a four race win skein dating back to October 13. Today's Susan B. Handicap was restricted to fillies and mares bred in the State of New York and contested at six furlongs. Six rivals were set to break from the gate with Albert Fried Jr's Light Tactic the $1.65 to 1 favorite over Sweet Lorena at $1.70 to 1. Light Tactic was making her first of the year while Sweet Lorena was coming off her first score of the year. Sweet Lorena carrying highweight of 122 pounds tracked Bob's Dylan with the first quarter clicked off in 22.27. Bob's Dylan continued on the Bill Daily with the half mile going down in 45.50 with Sweet Lorena chasing and Light Tactic in striking distance along the three path. John Davila Jr let Bob's Dylan loose in the lane the pair drew clear to get the money by three lengths. Afleet Alexandra rallied to finish a neck in front of Sweet Lorena in third. Bob's Dylan covered the distance over a fast track in 1:10.34 and earned $30,000. Bred by Stonewall Farm & Robert Breier, the four year old filly by David out of Right About Now by Pentelicus now has eight career wins out of 20 starts and $145,313 in money won. Also, the first time stakes winner qualified for $6,000 in breeders' awards.

(6/12/09) Tri to Bea Early graduates in $24,000 "MSW"

Emily Schoenman's TRI TO BEA EARLY put Secret Embrace away leaving the backstretch and then widened under the whip to take today's $24,000 "MSW" test by four and one-quarter lengths.ÊThe Felix Monserrate trainedÊmaidenÊhad not started since running third on October 2 going sixfurlongs. Listed at 10 to 1 by morning lines oddsmaker Carl Anderson, Tri to Be Early returned $7.80. Today's dash at five and one halfÊwas restricted to fillies and mares bred in the state of New York with Jon Buckley's trained entry of No More Lilly's and MajesticMoon the $2.20 to 1 favorite. Stonegate Racing Stable's No More Lilly's was making her career debut and coming off a bullet work going five-eighths inÊ101.20 breezing from the gate on May 21. Majestic Moon has not raced since November 8 where she went two turns andÊfinished third beaten nine lengths. Eight rivals broke from the gate with Tri to Bea Early and Secret Embrace dictating the pace with opening quarter clocked in 22.73. Tri to Bea gave Secret Embrace the slip on the bend and reached the quarter pole in 46.61 and a length lead. Meanwhile, No More Lilly's was gaining ground along the four path into the straight and had only two lengths to make-up with a furlong remaining. Tri to Bea Early responded when roused by Daniel Morales and they widened through the final sixteenth to score by just over four lengths. No More Lilly's gave it her best and finished second three and one-half lengths over the late running Itscooltobesmall in third. Tri to Bea Early covered the distance over a good track in 1:05.77 and earned $14,400. Bred by her owner, the four year old filly by Tri Line out of Too Easy Too Early by Thirty Eight Places now has $35,148 in money won and also qualified for $1,440 in breeders' awards.

(6/9/09) Alabama's Jumper earns diploma via disqualificaition in $24,000 "MSW"

John Lauriello and Michael Pizitz' ALABAMA'S JUMPIN was impeded by Princeofproximity just before the wirewhile missing by nose in today's $24,000 "MSW" and then after a stewards inquiry was posted, Alabama's Jumpin was declared the winner. Alabama's Jumpin had only raced once in his life and that was back on August 11 where the four year son of Jump Start ran third with state-bred maiden allowance rivals going six furlongs over Saratoga's main track. Today's contest at five and one-half furlongs was restricted to maiden three year olds and upward bred in the state of New York. Nine maidens were set to break from the gate with Alabama's Jumpin the one to beat at .75 cents on the dollar. Princeofproximity was let go at a cool $8.20 to 1. Owned and trained by M. Anthony Ferraro, Princeofproximity has raced three times this year with a fifth, a second, one third and $7,400 in earnings. Robert G. Klimasewski's Haunter nailed down the first quarter in 21.98 with Jades Knight just to his outside. Haunter kicked clear on the bend and stopped the timer for the half mile in 46.45. In the meantime, Alabama's Jumpin moved into second and appeared ready to roll. Can't Buy Love was making his move on the outside and then Princeofproximity was in sight. Can't Buy Love was caught between Alabama's Jumpin and Princeofproximity to the outside with a sixteenth to go. Can't Buy Love was forced to take up while Princeofproximity and Alabama's Jumpin battled to the line. Princeofproximity drifted in late bumping with Alabama's Jumpin while besting the latter by a nose. Alabama's Jumpin was declared the victor after the stewards placed the winner second. The five and one-half furlongs was clocked over a fast track in 106.68 with Alabama's Jumpin earning $14,400 for the win. Bred by Joan T. Simpson, the four year old son of Jump Start out of Ms Jaguar Type by Gilded Time now has $20,000 in money won and also qualified for $1,440 in breeders' awards.

(6/8/09) Nantasket scores by a whisker in $21,700 feature

Walter Downey's NANTASKET closed determinedly to nail Fillie by the Bay on the wire to take today's $21,700 featured sixth race by a whisker. Trained by Edward C. Perdue, Nantasket closed well in her most recent on May 29 to finish second at 15 to 1 to Quixotic Lassie. In this years debut, Nantasket was in a striking distance at the top of the lane but faded to finish fifth going six furlongs. Today's contest going six panels was restricted to fillies and mares which had never won a state-bred race other than. Six rivals were set to go with Island Wind Racing's Kiss and Fly the one to beat at 3 to 5. In that dash, Mr. Bourbon Street contested the lead to midstretch and then faded. Be Bullish the highweight carrying 124 pounds and John A. Grabowski ducked out some hitting the gate at the start while Mr. Bourbon Street and Large Popcorn got the opening quarter heads apart in 21.95. Mr. Bourbon Street disposed of Large Popcorn and reached the quarter pole in 45.69 and a two length cushion. Meanwhile, it appeared that Be Bullish was not running his race while five wide on the turn but 15 to 1 long shot Hidden Expense was making his move. Mr. Windjammer was still four lengths back in fourth and then was angled to the outside for his run. Mr. Bourbon Street was collared by Mr. Windjammer with a furlong to go while Hidden Expense was only a length back in third. Mr. Windjammer took the lead and then was able to turn back Hidden Expense to capture the 26th running of the George W. Barker Handicap by a length. Mr. Bourbon Street finished third with Be Bullish fourth. Mr. Windjammer covered the distance over a fast track at Finger Lakes in 1:11.33 and earned $30,000. A field of six broke from the gate in good order with Dove Nest putting a quick length on Winning Mandate with the first quarter clocked in 22.55. Scarlettsobsession was only two and one-half lengths back in third. Winning Mandate was still chasing Dove Nest who put two lengths to good with only a furlong to go. (4/20/09) Trust Nobody rallies to take $21,700 feature

Roddy J. Valente's TRUST NOBODY rallied along the Grandstand side and nailed Video Chip on the wire to take today's $21,700 featured eighth race by a neck. Trained by Ralph D'Alessandro, Trust Nobody was coming off a wire-to-wire three length score with conditioned $10,000 claimers over the inner dirt at Aqueduct on March 14. Today's contest at four and one-half furlongs was restricted to three year olds and upward which had never won a state-bred race with James S. Acquilano and River Card Stable's Smokin Warrior the chalk at $1.45. to 1. Smokin Warrior trained by Acquilano ran three times at Aqueduct from February 5 to March 18. On February 5, the five year old by Smokin Mel was claimed for $10,000 by his new connections. In that six furlongs test, Smokin Warrior forced the issue to midstretch but faded to run fourth. The speedster came right back at the $14,000 claiming level and showed the way to the final yards but came up three-quarters of a length short of Goodson. Also getting attention in this field of 6 at $2.95 to 1 was Trust Nobody. Video Chip broke alertly and established a length while getting the first fraction in 23.12. Trust Nobody was along the four path while Smokin Warrior hugged the fence. Trust Nobody collared Video Chip in midstretch while Smokin Warrior was dropping back. Trust Nobody responded gamely to the whip of Dennis Carr and the pair bested Video Chip by a neck. Rule Seventy Six finished gamely from between horses to finish third only beaten a half length. Trust Nobody covered the distance over a wet-fast strip in 52.92 and earned $13,020. Bred by Thomas Dushas, the five year old gelding by Testimonial out of Zeal for Kris by Unreal Zeal now has 5 career scores out of 27 tries and $133,518 in money won. Also, the rallying winner qualified for $2,604.00 in breeders' awards.

(4/18/09) Karakormkipnitreal proves best in $21,700 feature

Sheila R. Englehart's KARAKORMKIPNITGREAL opened up a clear lead with a sixteenth of a mile to go and then was all out to turn back Quixotic Lassie to take today's $21,700 featured eighth race by a neck. Trained by Chris Englehart, Karakormkipnitreal was coming off a length score over wide-open $7,500 claimers going five and one-half furlongs at Mountaineer Park on March 20. Last year, the Englehart trainee ran five times over this oval and ended the year with 2 seconds, 2 thirds and $10,532 in earnings. Today's contest at four and one-half furlongs was restricted to fillies and mares which had never won a state-bred race other than with Karakormkipnitreal the $1.85 to 1 favorite. Also taking plenty of action at the windows at $2.90 to 1 was Lawrence Vaccarelli's Final Fever. Trained by Eileen Muller, Final Fever was making her first start since finishing off the board with similar on November 7. Prior to that race, Final Fever wired a field of wide-open $6,500 claimers by a length at six furlongs. The front-running winner was haltered by her new owner out of that dash. A Field of seven was let go with Deadlocked and Final Fever matching strides while Karakormkipnitreal was tracking two lengths back in third. The opening quarter was clocked in 23.18. Karakormkipnitreal was let loose by Omar Camejo and the pair collared Deadlocked with a furlong to go. Karakormkipnitreal responded to pressure and opened up a clear lead and then was able to outrun Quixotic Lassie to the line for the score. Yes I May made a late bid to earn a share. Karakormkipnitreal covered the distance over a fast track in 53.68 and earned $13,020. Bred by Richard Englander, the three year old filly by Kelly Kip out of Her Reality by Cutlass Reality now has five career wins out of 16 starts and $65,645 in money won. Also the good now runner qualified for $2.604.00 in breeders' awards.

(4/7/09) Racing season just around the corner - Thoroughbreds make 2009 debut Friday, April 17

FARMINGTON, N.Y. With thoroughbreds arriving at the track on a daily basis to begin training for the 2009 meet, Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack is preparing for the start of its 48th racing season two weeks from today on Friday, April 17 at 1:10 p.m.

After opening on April 17, Finger Lakes will run live on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday the remainder of the month, before moving to a five-day week with the addition of Sunday as a racing day in early May. Thursday will replace Sunday as a race day for the remainder of the season beginning the week of September 13 with the exception of Thanksgiving Day, November 26 and December 3.

Post times for the 163-day schedule that concludes December 5 will be 1:10 p.m. daily through October 31, with the exception being Fridays between May 1 and October 30 when first post will be set at 12:35 p.m. Beginning November 2, post time will move to 12:15 p.m. to accommodate the end of daylight savings time. The 2009 meet includes a total purse increase of nearly 10% overall over 2008 levels and the most scheduled racing days since 2002. The stable area opened on March 2, two weeks earlier than in past years, to provide for additional training time prior to the season.

2009 Stakes

The 2009 stakes schedule features 17 events with total purse levels estimated to be over $1.2 million. In terms of total purse, the New York Breeders' Futurity on October 3 tops the schedule with an estimated offering of $200,000.

Highlighting the 2009 schedule will be the 37th running of the $150,000 (added) New York Derby on Saturday, July 11. The New York Derby is the second leg of the Big Apple Triple for New York-bred 3-year olds, which begins with the Mike Lee Stakes at Belmont Park on June 21, and concludes on August 26 with the Albany at Saratoga. In 2008, Finger Lakes-based Tin Cup Chalice became the first horse ever to sweep all three legs of New York's version of the Triple Crown.

For the sixth consecutive season, WYSL 1040 AM will provide exclusive live coverage opening day and selected Finger Lakes stakes action. A total of three stakes, including pre and post race analysis, will be broadcast live, including the New York Derby.

The stakes season begins with the $50,000 George W. Barker Handicap (NY-bred 3-year olds & up) on Memorial Day, May 25. The $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile (2-year olds) wraps up the schedule on Saturday, October 31.
