Givensilver takes open allowance at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack
Charlton Baker's owned and trained GIVENSILVER took the lead in upper
stretch and in a hand ride proved best in today's $15,200 allowance test by
two lengths. Ridden by Paul Nicol, that was Givensilver second win of the year.
Givensilver's most recent tally was at Aqueduct on January 18 where he rallied
to score by almost two lengths against $20,000 claimers going one mile and one-sixteenth.
The Baker trainee has had only three trips over this oval and in his last here
around two turns against conditioned allowance rivals he gained the lead after
a half mile and then weakened in the late stages to finish third beaten just
over two lengths. Six rivals which had never won three races and going one mile
and seventy yards went to the starting gate with Givensilver the luke warm choice
and $2.20 to 1. Second choice in the wagering at $2.40 to 1 was Paul E. Labe's
speedster Red Hot Cat who faded in his most recent but before that the John

same distance. Red Hot Cat with leading rider John Davila in the irons went
out and set fractions of 23.85 and got the half mile in 48.14 with a length
lead over Alaskan Beau along three path and Phil Mills' Goin' Tap City to the

Shuffle Board wires 6 at "Lakes"
Michael LeCesse's owned and trained SHUFFLE BOARD made every pole a winning
one to capture today's $20,100 state-bred allowance test by almost eight lengths.
Ridden to victory by Pedro Rodriguez, Shuffle Board was coming off a third place
finish on October 15 against similar where he set the fractions while pressed
and then weakened late to miss by almost two lengths. Back in the spring, Shuffle
Board rattled off three straight in almost wire-to-wire fashion. The gelded
son of Sea Salute started that string of wins by downing a field of nine $10,000
claimers by nine and then came right back against allowance company to score
by almost five lengths. Then on June 8, Shuffle Board made it three straight
against condition allowance foes by along three lengths. All three scores had
the riding services of hot riding apprentice Elaine Castillo. Six colt's and
gelding's which had never won two state-breds races other than went to the starting
gate positioned in the six furlong chute. Shuffle Board quickly established
the advantage and with a length lead over Carl J. Riedel's High On Madison got
the quarter in 22.65. Without asking, Shuffle Board doubled his lead over High
On Madison at the top of the lane while stopping the timer for the half mile
and a quick 45.82. In the Meantime, Thomas Feligno's Kennewick was trying to
make up some ground along rail and was only three lengths back with a quarter
of a mile to go. Shuffle Board was roused in midstretch by Rodriquez with few
taps along the side and they opened up a six and one-half length cushion with
only a furlong left. High On Madison was chasing in second with only a half
length on Kennewick and the rest were fighting to just light the tote board.
Rodriquez put his stick away and in a hand ride widened some to prove clearly
the best by seven and three-quarter lengths. High On Madison held off Kennewick
for the place and Frank Headley rallied a bit to finish forth beaten a half
length for the show spot. Shuffle Board got the six furlong distance over a
fast track in 1:10.32 and earned $12,060. Bred by Roger L. Toffolon, the four

about two lengths back to Mother's Sacrifice. Real Assets continued on with
a narrow lead and tripped the timer for the half mile in 47.52 with Mother's
Sacrifice under a snug hold along the fence. Sage's Fifty Six began to drop
