The 6-year-old mare, owned by David Brown and her trainer Timothy Murphy, went on to also win the Jack Betta Be Rite September 10. A lack of entries for Monday caused the cancellation of the 9-race card for April 24. With several horses still working into race shape and others yet to arrive from winter racing locations, the number of horses available to fill scheduled cards has been less than what was originally projected. Eliminating both the April 24 and May 7 cards at this stage is designed to allow horses that may have raced those days to instead populate racing cards in the immediate future and preserve field size.
"While unfortunate, this cancellation is necessary to preserve our horse population so that we can offer our on and off-track patrons the best possible product during the remainder of the meet. I am hopeful that this will ensure the stability of our schedule as we move forward into the heart of our racing season," said Chris Riegle, Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack president and general manager.
Other than on April 24, live racing will continue as scheduled every Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday through May 13, after which Sundays will be added to the schedule. Post time for all live racing days is 1:10 p.m., with gates opening at 11:30 a.m. On Fridays between May 12 and July 21, post time will be 12:35 p.m.
Full-card simulcasting will be available on April 24 and May 7, as it is daily, until 6 p.m. The gaming floor featuring over 1,000 video gaming machines is open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., daily.

(4/17) Sheer Silk captures feature
Flying Zee Stable's SHEER SILK shipped in from Aqueduct to capture today's $20,100 featured sixth race by two and one-quarter lengths. Trained by Oscar S. Barrera Jr, Sheer Silk's most recent tally was two races back at Aqueduct on February 19 going one mile and seventy yards. That test was against conditioned allowance state-breds which had never won a race other than. Sheer Silk gained the advantage from the outset and matched strides to the top of the lane before getting loose with a furlong to go and then under steady pressure from Dominquez turned back Look'n Swell for a half length decision. The four year old daughter of Western Expression has two wins on the year out of four starts and $43,507 in the bank. Today's test carrying a purse of $20,100 was restricted to fillies and mares which had never won two state-bred race other than. Pixie Dust showed some early gas in the that test but quickly dropped out of it and finished a well beaten last. Last year, trainer Kenneth Smith had Pixie Dust in rare form. Sheer Silk with Paul Nicol in the irons, rushed out and contested the lead with Pixie Dust with the latter getting the first quarter by a head in 22.99. Three lengths back in third was Burning Fluid. Sheer Silk responded readily to pressure from Nicol and put Pixie Dust away and went on to score by just over two lengths. Pixie Dust lasted for the place by neck over the late rallying Gonnabeapartofit. Sheer Silk got the distance over a fast track in 53.42 and earned $12,060. Seven rivals went to the post with Renpher Stable's speedster Crying Poverty the 3 to 5 choice. Crying Poverty has one win out of only three starts on the year. JOCKEY NEWS
Jockey Omar Camejo is scheduled to ride in three races on opening day after riding at Tampa Bay Downs over the winter. Camejo's 2005 Finger Lakes season ended after sustaining three broken ribs and a punctured lung in a spill on July 19 that placed him in the hospital for 10 days. Camejo spent the remainder of the season recuperating before riding this winter at Tampa Bay Downs where he won 13 races in 121 mounts.
Paul Nicol, Jr. is also listed on three mounts opening day after missing the majority of the 2005 season with broken vertebrae. Nicol, Jr. who won the Finger Lakes jockey title in 1993, returned to ride last November 15 with a victory aboard Some Irish Legend. He currently leads all active jockeys at Finger Lakes with 2,950 victories in his career.
Two top ten jockeys from last season will miss the beginning of the 2006 season with injuries. Joe Badamo, who won four stakes and finished fifth in the jockeys standings last year, had rotator cuff surgery on March 17 and will be out indefinitely. Chin Yang's return has also not been determined after fracturing his leg during workouts at Tampa Bay Downs on February 21. New faces in the Finger Lakes jockey colony this year include veteran journeyman Jose Bermudez, who has ridden predominantly on the New York Racing Association (NYRA) circuit. WHAT'S NEW
Finger Lakes becomes the latest track in the country to offer 10-cent superfectas as part of the wagering menu beginning with opening day. Superfectas, which involve selecting the top four horses in a race, played on a dime base bet allow players greater flexibility in covering multiple combinations on a single ticket. The dime superfecta will be available in races five and nine on a nine-race card.
Additionally, Finger Lakes will switch to net pool pricing beginning with the 2006 meet. The difference will not be largely noticeable to bettors, however the conversion allows Finger Lakes races to more easily be made available internationally by allowing foreign jurisdictions to abide by their mandated takeout rates without affecting the remainder of the pool.
Jeff LaRue was named starter during the winter to replace Arthur Green, who passed away January 31. Green had held the position since 1987.
