| (2/27) Jet Prospector impresses with open allowance score
at Big A Jerry Campbell's JET PROSPECTOR sizzled through opening fractions of 22 and 44.4-seconds on his way to a four-length open company allowance victory, today, at Aqueduct Racetrack. Making his second start against open company horses, the four year-old son of A. P Jet went to the post as the odds-on betting favorite in the six-horse field. The victory qualified Jerry Campbell for an open owner's award of $5,160, and also qualified his breeder, Hall of Fame trainer and breeder John Nerud for a $5,160 breeder's award. Chester and Mary Broman's SEEKING THE ANTE shipped up from trainer John Kimmel's barn at Payson Park in Florida to break her maiden at Aqueduct Racetrack. In her last start in New York on December 5th, Seeking the Ante finished second in the East View Stakes, beaten a neck to Successfully Sweet. She then shipped south before beginning her three-year-old campaign on Feb. 2nd finishing fourth against open company horses at Gulfstream Park in a one-mile turf affair. Chestertown Slew, another Broman homebred trained by Kimmel, shipped north to face state-bred company, finishing second in Saturday's opener. Seeking the Ante was the overwhelming 1-2 odds on favorite and acted the part with an easy five-length score under journeyman jockey Richard Migliore. |

| (2/26) Lady Libby finishes second in Rare Treat Handicap
Richard Ribeiro's LADY LIBBY, gained ground around the far turn but couldn't catch Miss Fortunate through the stretch finishing second by 2-3/4-lengths in the $78,575 Rare Treat Handicap for fillies and mares, four year-olds and up. The race was run at nine-furlongs over Aqueduct's winterized inner-track. The five-year-old daughter of Sea Salute, who stands at Liberty Stud in Ghent, New York, qualified her owner for a $3,143 open owner's award, as well as qualified her breeder Roger Toffolon for a matching $3,143 breeder's award. Mr. Toffolon, who owns Sea Salute, also qualified for a stallion owner's award of $1,100. CURLY'S PRIDE, ridden for the first time by "red-hot" apprentice jockey Channing Hill, out-dueled Six Meadows through the stretch to register her second career victory. The NW-1X condition allowance for fillies and mares, four year-olds and up was run over the winterized inner-track at Aqueduct. Owned by William and Judith Foley, Curly's Pride is from the first crop of the 1999 Eclipse Sprint Champion Artax, who returned to New York State to stand stud at Metropolitan Stud for the 2004 season. Hill rode two-winners on the Saturday card, which moves him within one victory (16) of leading apprentice jockey Eriluis Vaz for leading apprentice jockey at the meet. Canolli Stable's GENERAL HOWZE dropped a bombshell in today's first race winning wire to wire in a state-bred maiden affair and paid a whopping $139 to win and front ended a $33,935 triple! Racing for the first time under trainer Victor Cuadra, who prepped the three-year-old gelding with a series of workouts over Belmont Park's training track, General Howze broke from the seven-post in the 12-horse field. Our Sugar Bear Stable's KING UMBERTO, took an outside path around the far turn and powered past the field in deep stretch to break his maiden against a 10-horse field of state-bred horses going six-furlongs. Trained by the affable Robert Ribaudo and ridden by apprentice jockey Channing Hill, the three-year-old bay gelding also lit up the board paying $62 to win. |

| (2/25) Nevaeh tops century mark with Aqueduct allowance
victory Wayne Ewald's NEVAEH, heaven spelled backwards, gamely withstood Angel in Harlem's late surge to register her 3rd victory in 15-starts. The NW-2X condition allowance race for state-bred fillies and mares, four year-olds and upward, was run over the inner track at six-furlongs. Trainer Richard Destasio named journeyman jockey Aaron Gryder to ride the four-year-old chestnut filly who raised her earnings to $116,150 with today's victory. Nevaeh was sold as a yearling at the Keeneland September Yearling Sales for $75,000 and was bred by Lakland Farm North's Becky Thomas and Lewis Lakin. Richard Lodico's SUCCESSFUL APPEAL swept four wide around the last turn, took the lead at the top of the stretch, and then proceeded to draw off winning by an impressive 11-1/2 lengths crossing the wire. The state-bred maiden race for three-year-olds was run at a mile and eighth and had a field of 7 horses go to the post. Successful Appeal, who had finished second in his previous two efforts, went to the gate as the odds-on favorite and was ridden by journeyman jockey Ariel Smith. Trained by Dominic Galluscio, the bay colt was purchased at last April's OBS two-year-old in-training sales for $40,000 and has now banked $42,277 in five-starts. |

Purchased at last year's April OBS two-year-old in-training sales for $33,000, the three year-old daughter of Straight Man was fit and ready after a series of works over Aqueduct's inner track, working a "bullet" 47-seconds flat from the gate on Feb. 5th. Trainer Gary Contessa named journeyman jockey Ariel Smith to ride the filly, who broke from the outside post-position in the seven-horse field. |

| (2/21) Acey Deucey captures Dearly Precious Stakes at
Aqueduct New York-breds continue to flourish in open stakes company as Jeffrey Tucker's ACEY DEUCEY captured the $81,200 Dearly Precious Stakes for three-year-old fillies today at Aqueduct Racetrack. Making her first start against open company fillies, Acey Deucey was overlooked at the windows and returned a healthy $51.50 to win. It was the third win in five starts for Acey Deucey, a New York-bred daughter of Abaginone, out of Misty Mountains, by Al Nasr (Fr). Acey Deucey was rated at the back of the field in the early going as Slew Motion and Megascape dueled through some torrid fractions. "If the race held to form, it would set up perfectly for her - and it did," trainer Morrison said. "We've been working with her to take her back and make one run, and it came into line today. We're very pleased. Everyone did a great job: from the groom to the exercise rider to Diane (Nelson) in the morning with the workouts. It paid off today." It certainly paid off for Nelson, who won a stakes race in New York for the first time since 2000, when she won the East View and Valley Stream with Astrapi. "When she switched her leads off the turn, I knew I was going to win it because I hadn't even asked her yet and she was full of run," Nelson said. "She galloped out great; I couldn't even pull her up." The $48,720 winner's share elevates Acey Deucey's earnings above the century mark to $111,620 in only 5-career starts. Acey Deucey was purchased last year at the April OBS two-year-old in-training sales for $35,000 by Jeffrey Tucker, who also qualified for an open owner's award of $9,744 for today's score. TWOOUTSINTHENINTH, stopped twice in an effort to find racing room through the stretch, charged to the front in deep stretch to defeat state-bred allowance three-year-olds. It was sheer luck that apprentice jockey Channing Hill managed to stay aboard after the three-year-old colt was squeezed and stumbled briefly. Hill, who's been hot of late winning 7 out of his last 21-starts, is in a tight battle with jockey Eriluis Vaz for leading apprentice jockey at the meet. Twooutsintheninth is owned and bred by Barry K. Schwartz and is trained by Mike Hushion, who's winning at a very respectable 24-percent. RUN ALONG SONNY took the nightcap at the Big A. to notch his second victory in 15-races boosting his lifetime earnings above the century mark to $105,170. Run Along Sonny broke from the advantageous rail position in the mile and seventy yard race for NW-1X condition allowance state bred four year-olds and up and was ridden to victory by journeyman jockey Jean Luc Samyn. Harlingen Stable's WILD VICAR crushed a field of state-bred maiden three-year olds by more than 18-lengths in an 8-1/2-furlong affair. Trainer Kelly Breen, saddling Wild Vicar for the first time named journeyman jockey Aaron Gryder to ride. The dark bay gelding was purchased as a yearling for $42,000 and had only hit the board once in six previous races before his eye opening effort. Team Five Star Stable's MON OVER MIAMI ridden daringly by journeyman jockey Jose Amy charged through a narrow opening along the rail in deep stretch to win going away. The 8-1/2-furlong race for state-bred maiden three-year-olds had a full field of 11-horses go to the starting gate. Trained by Dominick Galluscio, the dark bay gelding was purchased out of the 2004 March OBS two-year-old in-training sales for $25,000 and has now earned $33,400 in three-starts. |

| (2/20) HOLLIE HUGHES "Hat Trick" for Papua Barry K. Schwartz' PAPUA became the only horse to win the Hollie Hughes in three consecutive years, as he overcame front-running Show Boot in the lane to win the 27th renewal of this $80,976, six-furlong sprint for New York-breds, three years old and up, today, at Aqueduct Racetrack. Carrying top weight of 123 pounds, he spotted six pounds to Show Boot, who set the pace, but under the skillful handling of jockey Richard Migliore saved ground to around the far turn before powering to the lead and won going away by almost four-lengths. "I had a good trip and the best horse, and a lot of times, that's unbeatable," Migliore said. "On the turn, I felt good about it, but then when he got closer to the kickback, he pinned his ears because the dirt was coming back so hard. I tapped him on the shoulder to say, `Hey, run through that dirt.' Right then and there, he jumped on it and I felt good about it. I said it before the race and even more so now: this has been a great training job by Mike Hushion. The horse is now six and this is a huge testimony to how Mike develops his young horses. My helmet is off to him." The winning time of 1:09.3/5 is the fastest of Papua's Hollie Hughes victories. "That was a lot of fun," said winning trainer Mike Hushion, "this was as strong as any of his races. He just 'whooshed' to the lead today. Any horse that goes out there and runs his race, whether he's a 20-claimer or a horse like Papua, you've got to like. I looked at him in the paddock and felt really good about his chances, even with the 123 pounds. I'm glad he stayed inside." Bred by Barry K. Schwartz at his beautiful Stonewall Farm in Granite Springs, New York, Papua has now banked $487,020 with a Lifetime Record: 31-10-5-4. In today's opener, GOLDEN CONTENDER returned to the winner's circle after a one-year absence in an 8-1/2-furlong race for open claimers. Trainer Bruce Levine named journeyman jockey Mike Luzzi to ride the dark bay gelding, who broke from the 5-post position in the 7-horse field. The durable seven-year-old has now banked $278,155 in 58-career starts. Michael Aronow's BLACK LIGHT DANCER overcame a bumping incident leaving the gate and with single-mindedness ran down front running odds-on favorite, Lucky Darling, in deep stretch to break her maiden. After finishing fourth in her maiden debut on Jan. 21st, trainer Jose Martin worked the four-year-old dark bay filly three-times over the Belmont Park training track and for extra good measure named the meet's leading jockey Rafael Bejarano to ride. |

| (2/19) Distinctive Trick wins Fred "Cappy" Capossela Stakes
on New York-bred dominated Saturday DISTINCTIVE TRICK winning the $80,550 Fred "Cappy" Capossela Stakes was the icing on the cake for the New York Breeding and Racing Program as New York-breds won 5 open races and 8 out of 9 overall on the Saturday Aqueduct card. Owned and trained by Uriah St. Lewis, Distinctive Trick was making his first start against open company horses and the wire-to-wire victory establishes him as a legitimate candidate for this year's OTBs' Big Apple Triple series for three-year-old New York-breds. "I had this spot or the New York-bred race tomorrow (Hollie Hughes)," said St. Lewis, "but that was against older horses and I didn't want to race against older horses. It was better to run against three-year-olds. He is just coming into his own right now." Since adding blinkers five starts back, Distinctive Trick has two wins, a second and two thirds, and his second-place finish was by a nose. "Blinkers have made a big difference; they have helped him concentrate," St. Lewis said. Ridden for the first time by Stewart Elliott, the three-year-old dark bay colt shipped into Aqueduct from trainer St. Lewis' Philadelphia Park barn. "He broke really sharp and left there running, and made the lead easily," said last year's winning Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes jockey, adding, "Turning for home, I had horse left and he just went on." Purchased out of the May 2004 Timonium two-year-olds in training sale for $14,000, Distinctive Trick's $48,330 winner's share of the purse raised his lifetime earnings to $133,182 in 9-starts. New York-bred MR. DETERMINED was all of that and more defeating a field of NW-2X open condition allowance horses. Breaking sharply, Mr. Determined led at every call and gamely battled back to take the lead after being headed by Go Now midway in the stretch. Owned by Dorothy DeMola and trained by Richard DeMola, the six-year-old gray horse was ridden to victory by Shaun Bridgmohan. HOLLYWOOD WONDER got to take her picture again with an off the pace winning performance against NW-1X allowance fillies and mares. Owned by the partnership of Audrey Hastings Cooper and Leslie Bensi, the four-year-old daughter of Chequer is trained by Patrick Kelly and was ridden to victory by the meet's leading rider Rafael Bejarano. Our Sugar Bear Stable's BOOKEM went gate-to-wire to break her maiden in career debut. The three-year-old daughter of Notebook was purchased at the June 2004 OBS two-year-old in training sales for $14,000 and is trained by Mike Brice, who named journeyman jockey Aaron Gryder to ride. New York-breds, also, won both ends of the early daily double with Flying Zee Stable's SHEER SILK, donning blinkers for the first time, breaking her maiden in the first race against state-bred three-year-old fillies and Gumpster Stable's BO BO's VICE closing strongly to beat open claimers in the second race. |
