| (5/30) Bestowed wins again to remain undefeated BESTOWED, who broke his maiden in impressive style earlier in the month of May, easily defeated a field of state-bred NW-1X condition allowance horses today at Belmont Park. The 1-1/8th mile affair was raced over the inner turf course, listed "firm" for the Memorial Day race card. Trained by Michael Dickinson, the three-year-old son of Repeal was, once again, ridden to victory by Norberto Arroyo, Jr. Bestowed is the first foal out of Blond Lady, who's a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winning Allez Milord (Tom Rolfe), who raced in Europe, Japan and North America and was, also, bred by Gallagher's Stud. Bestowed is by Repeal (Rahy), another Gallagher's Stud product and is a half-brother to multiple stakes winner Statement (Seattle Slew). The $26,400 winner's share of the purse boosts the three-year-old bay colt's earnings to $51,600 in two-starts. Parma Stable's BE MY PRINCE, making first start after a 7-month layoff closed strongly through the stretch to beat a state-bred field of NW-1X condition allowance horses in a one-mile event run over the Widener turf course, listed "firm". Jockey Cornelio Velasquez guided Be My Prince behind horses to the top of the stretch and then advanced down the middle of the course and won an exciting three-horse photo finish over Dave and Unnerving, who finished second and third, respectively. The gray four year-old horse is trained by Angel Penna, Jr., who wintered in southern Florida before shipping to Belmont Park in mid-April and fine tuning Be My Prince for his return with four works over both the main and the training tracks. The winner's share of the purse ($26,400) elevates Be My Prince's earnings to $78,900 in seven-career starts and qualified his breeders, Rita Nash and Robert Hamilton, together, for a $5,280 breeder's award. |

| (5/29) Big Apple Daddy rolls in N2X - 7F in 1:21.88 Ervin Rodriguez's three-year-old BIG APPLE DADDY appears to have arrived big time. In Belmont's Sunday seven-furlong N2X allowance for New York-bred three-year-olds and up, the dark bay clocked accelerating splits of 22.95 and 22.66 while out from the rail, set a 1:09.47 six-furlong fraction and registered a final time of 1:21.88 as the 9-3/4-length odds-on (.40-to-1) winner among five starters. The victory boosted his earnings by $27,000 to $196,494 and improved his record to 3 - 5 - 1 in 11 starts, which includes second-place efforts in Aqueduct's $150,000 New York Stallion Times Square Stakes five weeks earlier and in Finger Lakes' Aspirant Stakes and New York Breeders' Futurity in 2004. It was Big Apple Daddy's seventh consecutive outing under jockey Michael Luzzi, who had ridden the colt to a 7-1/4-length victory in a six-furlong restricted N1X allowance at Aqueduct in February. Following the runner-up effort in the Times Square on April 24, trainer Bruce Levine had given the New York-bred a pair of sharp half-mile workouts (47 4/5 and 46-flat) at Belmont on May 13 and 21, respectively. Owner Rodriguez had purchased Big Apple Daddy for $40,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2004 March sale of two-year-olds in training from the consignment of Becky Thomas's Sequel Bloodstock, agent. Thomas, who along with Lewis Lakin bred Big Apple Daddy -- co-qualifying for a $5,400 breeder award -- owns Lakland North, LLC in Hudson in partnership with Lakin, and it was at Lakland North that Big Apple Daddy was both conceived and foaled. The rapidly-improving colt is by former New York stallion Precise End, who had stood at Lakland North prior to being purchased by Japanese interests late in 2004, and his victory qualified the partnership owners of Precise End at the time of Big Apple Daddy's conception for a $1,890 stallion award. Big Apple Daddy is among three runners, all winners, produced from Clever Actress and is one of that mare's two NYRA allowance victors within the past 32 days -- being a half-brother to Paraneck Stable's three-time Aqueduct winner in 2005, four-year-old Princess Jasmine ($103,210). Clever Actress, who is a full sister to stakes-placed winner Clever Actor ($199,900) and is inbred 4 x 4 to Nearctic, had been purchased for $65,000 by Lakland Farm at Keeneland's 2000 November sale when she was carrying Princess Jasmine Majesty Stud's basically homebred STELLAR MAIDEN looked comfortable breaking her maiden at a one-turn mile as the odds-on (.95-to-1) choice among five New York-bred fillies -- all three-year-olds although the contest was open to older fillies and mares. It was her second career outing in 15 days under jockey Jorge Chavez, who had guided the bay filly to a third-place debut among eight at Belmont going 7-1/2 furlongs on May 14, and the effort increased her bankroll by $25,200 to $29,300 in two starts. The victory also qualified the Four Partners Stable that includes the Majesty Stud of Digby Barrios of Ridgefield, Connecticut, managing partner Henry Prieger of Prantlack Farm in Stanfordville, Laura Vukovich of New York City, and David Lester for a $5,040 breeder award. Stellar Maiden is the 10th winner of 2005 and 22nd winner overall sired by New York Thoroughbred Breeders 1998 Champion Three-Year-Old Male Raffie's Majesty (Cormorant - Raffinierte, by Surumu), whom Prieger and Barrios also bred and raced. Raffie's Majesty missed by two rapidly diminishing noses from winning Saratoga's Grade 1 Travers Stakes in 1998 and is owned by a partnership that qualified for a $1,764 stallion award as a result of Stellar Maiden's victory. Raffie's Majesty, whose progeny earnings recently topped $1.2-million, stands at Howard Kaskel's Sugar Maple Farm in Poughquag, where his 2005 fee is $3,000, live foal. Stellar Maiden is the third offspring and third New York-bred winner by Raffie's Majesty produced from six-time winner Triunfante ($102,796), with her full siblings including Belmont open main track allowance winner Raffie's Dream ($170,652), who also placed third in a division of Belmont's 2004 Mount Vernon Handicap on turf. Dam Triunfante, an allowance winner who scored both sprinting and routing, is a half-sister to two stakes-placed winners and to the dam of a stakes winner and was acquired privately by Prieger, et al, in the late 1990s after concluding her racing career in New England. Triunfante's dam is multiple stakes winner Winmor Miss ($175,500). Stellar Maiden's pedigree indicates that she is an outcross (no inbreeding) through five generations. |

| (5/28) Cat's Roar claws way to hard-fought N2X win Chester and Mary Broman's homebred CAT'S ROAR was the third New York-bred winner at Belmont on Saturday to lose command in the stretch and then re-gain it at the wire and the second one apparently to capitalize on an outside rival's reluctance to switch leads. Odds-on at .50-to-1 among six starters in a six-furlong restricted N2X allowance for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and up, the four-year-old filly was overtaken in mid-stretch by 7.60-to-1 third choice Tiffany's Rodeo but had her head back in front at the finish in her first outing under jockey Cornelio Velasquez. The victory increased her earnings by $27,000 to $153,020 and improved her record to 3 - 3 - 5 in 16 starts and also qualified the Bromans, who own a general contracting business in West Babylon as well as Chestertown Farm in Chestertown, for a $4,920 breeder award. The Bromans, selected 2004 Breeders of the Year by the New York Thoroughbred Breeders (NYTB) and outstanding New York breeders for 2003 by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, have bred five of the six offspring -- all winners -- produced from the winning dam of Cat's Roar, Whiskey Whisper, by Affirmed. Whiskey Whisper had been purchased for $69,000 by Questroyal Stable at Keeneland's 1995 November sale when she was carrying the first of her five New York-bred winners and her second winner overall. Cat's Roar, who last year placed third in Saratoga's $250,000 New York Stallion Statue of Liberty and Saratoga Dew Stakes, is the second consecutive six-figure-earning New York-bred produced from Whiskey Whisper, who is a half-sister to stakes winners Triocala ($465,660) and Tri Argo (dam of graded winner Tee Kay). Conditioned by NYTB 1979 Trainer of the Year Ramon (Mike) Hernandez, she is among 86 winners cumulatively and 23 in 2005 sired by syndicated Tomorrows Cat (Storm Cat - Tomorrow's Child, by Al Nasr), who stands at Metropolitan Stud (managed by Michael and Debra Lischin) in Pine Plains. Grade 2 winner Tomorrows Cat, who has a 2005 fee of $7,500, live foal and is under the management of Questroyal Stallions, has sired five stakes winners from his first two crops and boasts progeny earnings of almost $4.8-million from his first three crops. In Saturday's maiden special opener for New York-bred three-year-olds and up going a one-turn mile, Cedar Meadow Inc.'s homebred BREEZE ON appeared to gain, lose, then re-gain command as the narrowly-winning 1.60-to-1 favorite over 2.50-to-1 second choice Frank's Fuse -- with the other five starters finishing more than 10 lengths back. Ridden for the eighth consecutive time in competition by jockey Jean-Luc Samyn, the three-year-old was the leading money-earner going into the race, and his victory increased his earnings by $25,200 to $70,628 while improving his record to 1 - 4 - 2 in 10 starts. He also qualified his owner-breeder, the Cedar Meadow, Inc. (www.Cedar-Meadow.com) of horseracing partnerships established in 1990, of which Paul Giardina of East Hampton is president, for an additional $5,040 breeder award. Breeze On was coming off a third-place effort going a one-turn mile and a sixteenth at Belmont just 13 days earlier, prior to which he had placed second in a pair of back-to-back restricted maiden specials at Aqueduct in April. The bay colt is from the first crop of now-deceased Brushed On, a $393,314-earning Broad Brush stallion who had stood at Clermont Farm in Lattingtown and whose owner at the time of Breeze On's conception, Ocean Blue Stable, qualified for a $1,764 stallion award. Breeze On is the eighth offspring, eighth winner, and sixth New York-bred winner bred by Cedar Meadow from stakes-placed winner Breezethruthetrees, who is by Big Spruce and is a half-sister to Panamanian stakes-placed Charlie's Halo. His winning half-sisters include Secret Breeze ($113,035) and New York-bred Peconic Breeze ($109,284), who -- like Breeze On and all of that colt's older half-siblings -- have won at a mile or longer. Breeze On was the first of two narrowly-prevailing New York-bred three-year-old maiden special winners saddled on Saturday at Belmont by trainer Michael Sedlacek, who two races later sent out the filly Docstar to a neck victory going six furlongs. Against an older, more seasoned, and more highly-regarded (by the wagering public) outside rival, Tri Richard Stable's and Sue Sedlacek's three-year-old filly, DOCSTAR, regained the lead from 3.55-to-1 third choice Mystical Sea in the final furlong to break her maiden at six furlongs against New York-bred fillies. The dark bay filly was race-ridden for the fourth time by jockey Rudy Rodriguez, who in March had been aboard for her only previous on-the-board finish (third) at Aqueduct in her second start, but following a seventh-place April 24 effort she was dismissed at 13.60-to-1 (sixth choice) among eight. The victory increased Docstar's earnings by $24,600 to $30,534 in six starts -- all since early February -- and qualified her breeders, Nancy Harris and John Allen, for a $2,460 breeder award. Docstar races for the Tri Richard Stable of Lewis Friedman of New York City and for retired trainer Sue Sedlacek, mother of Docstar's trainer, Michael Sedlacek, who after the seventh-place Aqueduct effort 34 days earlier had given the filly three Belmont workouts spaced five and seven days apart. Docstar's pedigree indicates that she is an outcross (no inbreeding) through five generations. She is the third winner -- but first New York-bred -- produced from two-time sprint winner Docs Beauty and is a half-sister to winning dirt and turf filly router Stuka's Beauty ($151,637). |

| (5/27) Nick the Noodge captures state-bred grass allowance at Belmont
Park Joseph Parisi's NICK THE NOODGE defeated state-breds in a NW-1X condition allowance under a patient ride by journeyman jockey Pablo Fragoso. The 1-3/8th mile affair was run over Belmont Park's inner turf course labeled 'good' and had a field of 8-horses go to the starting gate with Deelites Gold going to the post as the race-time favorite. Trained by Dominick Schettino, Nick the Noodge was nestled in behind the front running Deelites Gold to the top of the stretch before angling off the rail and easily overtook the lead, which he increased to three-lengths crossing the wire. The four year-old dark bay gelding was sold as a yearling for $70,000 and with today's winner's purse of $26,400 elevates his earnings to $68,287 in 11-starts. LAUREN'S CHARM, bred and owned by Joseph Dirico, making her second start after a four month layoff, broke her maiden against state-bred fillies and mares in a one-mile race run over the Widener turf course. Trainer Kenneth Nesky named jockey Cornelio Velasquez to ride the three-year-old bay daughter of Regal Classic, who broke from the outside post position in the 10-horse field. Velasquez gunned the filly out of the gate to gain position and then was taken back by Velasquez as Classic Marilyn led the field to the top of the stretch. Lauren's Charm and Queen of Battle raced head to head through the stretch with Lauren's Charm forging to the front nearing the wire. Lauren's Charm is out of the Stately Don mare, Rosalie's Treat, who won the only time she raced over the turf and is a half-sister to 8-time winning turf specialist Prince Daniel (Sharpen Up - Gb), who won the Japan Racing Association Handicap. SPEEDY MUSIC, making her career debut, swept the field on the far turn and never looked back winning at odds of 25-1. Bred and owned by Robert Perez, Speedy Music is trained by Juan Ortiz and was ridden to victory by jockey Fernando Jara. The state-bred maiden race for fillies and mares was raced at a mile over the Widener turf course and had a field of 11-horses go to the post. The promising filly is a half-sister to Please Take Me Out (Take Me Out), winner of the Miss Grillo Stakes, as a 2-year-old. |

(5/26) Raf and Ready chases down Shady Lane to record
second straight victory
RAF AND READY won her second consecutive state-bred allowance race and has now reeled off three victories in her last four outings for the Castle Village Farm owners. The three year-old chestnut daughter of Raffie's Majesty, once again, was ridden by journeyman jockey Jean Luc-Samyn for trainer William Turner, Jr. The NW-2X condition for fillies and mares was taken off the turf and switched to the "muddy" main track, causing a host of late scratches, which reduced the field to six. Raf and Ready tracked the field to the top of the stretch before putting in her run and caught a stubborn Shady Lane, who was entered for main track, only, at the wire. The first and second place finishers, Raf and Ready and Shady Lane, respectively, were bred by Majesty Stud, managed by Digby Barrios. The $27,600 winner's share of the purse pushes Raf and Ready's lifetime earnings above the century mark to $121,718 in 10-career starts. The John T. Behrendt owned and trained BEHRNIK gamely defeated an open claiming field ($35,000 - $30,000) over a "muddy" main track at Belmont Park. The five-year-old bay mare was absent from the winner's circle for over a year but turned it around today deft handling of last year's Eclipse winning jockey John Velazquez, in fact, the last time Behrnik won she was ridden by Velazquez. Trained by David Donk, Behrnik's winner's share of the purse boosts her lifetime earnings to $230,923 in 30-career starts. The open company victory qualifies Mr. Behrendt for an open owner's award of $1,860, which matches the $1,860 award he'll receive as the breeder. IF IT'S MEANT TO B, sans blinkers, held off a strong challenge by Soul Possession through the stretch to best a shortened state-bred field of NW-1X condition allowance fillies and mares. Originally carded for the turf, a host of scratches reduced the field to six horses with Soul Possession going to the post as the race-time favorite. Owned by the partnership of Elizabeth Walsh and Krislee Stable (Ms. Christine Petillo), the three-year-old chestnut filly is trained by Heriberto Cedano, formerly the late Hall of Fame trainer P.G. Johnson's assistant trainer. Michael Gill's SARAH'S PROSPECT returned to state-bred competition after a brief foray in a Maryland Stallion Stakes affair and promptly wired a field of NW-1X condition allowance fillies and mares in a six-furlong affair. Trained by Mark Shuman, the three-year-old dark bay filly was ridden to victory by journeyman jockey Aaron Gryder. Purchased as a yearling for $50,000, the daughter of Allen's Prospect has now earned $68,030 in six-lifetime races. R B'S LEWIS making his first start in more than seven-months rallied through the stretch to break his maiden against a field of state-bred horses. Trainer Bruce Levine had the colt sharp as a tack and named go to rider Mike Luzzi to ride. The three-year-old chestnut colt was purchased as a yearling for $38,000 at the 2003 Keeneland September Yearling sales and races for the E El R Stable, managed by Richard Balfour. |

| (5/25) TWOOUTSINTHENINTH scores allowance victory at Belmont Park TWOOUTSINTHENINTH closed resolutely through the stretch to capture a state-bred NW-2X condition allowance, today, at Belmont Racetrack. The one turn mile and an eight race was contested over the main track, whose listing was oddly changed from "sloppy" to "muddy" prior to the running of this race and then changed back to "sloppy" for the following two races of the afternoon. Owned and bred by Barry K. Schwartz (Stonewall Farm), the three-year-old son of Gold Token is the 29th winner of the season for his sire, who's presently second in progeny earnings with $1,045,121 to A. P Jet's $1,057,663. Both stallions stand at Howard Kaskel's Sugar Maple Farm in Poughquag, N.Y. The $27,600 winner's share of the purses pushes the three-year-old bay gelding's earnings above the century mark to $106,673 in 10-career starts. Twooutsintheninth is out of the stakes winning and 100-percent producing Red Ransom mare, Lucky Lauren. William Hettinger's homebred LIGHT GUN won his second consecutive race with an off the pace performance under jockey Cornelio Velasquez. Trained by Ramon (Mike) Hernandez, the three-year-old dark bay gelding was stretching out beyond six-furlongs for the first time. The one turn state-bred allowance race was run over a "sloppy" main track at a mile and an eight with Light Gun stalking the early pace to the head of the stretch before running clear after splitting horses. The $26,400 winner's share of the purses boosts Light Gun's earnings to $51,411 after four-career starts. FOUNTAIN'SPRINCESS forged to the lead at the top of the stretch and held off a strong late run by L C Tiffany to break her maiden against state-breds in the finale. The six and one-half-furlong race was run over a "sloppy" main track with Fountain'sprincess breaking from the 9-post position. Trained and bred by Robert Terrill, Sr., the three-year-old chestnut filly was ridden by jockey Jean Luc-Samyn and is owned by Terrill, Sr. and Stephen Camus. Fountain'sprincess is the third horse to race and win out of the dam, Ftnoflivingwaters, including 8-time winner Ruby Princess (Gate Dancer) and 6-time winner Handsome Gent (Dixie Brass). Newcal Stable's URBAN CONQUEST, away from the races since last November 12th, turned in a powerful performance to defeat state-bred maidens today in a one turn mile race, which was switched from the turf to the main track, listed "sloppy". Trained by Robert Barbara, the three-year-old son of Victory Gallop won by more than 18-lengths and was ridden to victory by last year's Eclipse winning jockey John Velazquez. Purchased for $52,000 as yearling, Urban Conquest has now banked $75,986 in 8-career starts. SLEEK JACKAL, entered for main track only, benefited when the one-mile race was taken off the turf drawing off to win by more than six-lengths after trailing the field in the early going over the "sloppy" main strip. Owned and bred by Ernie Paragallo's Paraneck Stable, the three-year-old chestnut colt from the first crop of the 1999 Eclipse Sprint Champion Artax became the 30th winner of the season for his sire. Sleek Jackal is out of the Known Fact mare Jacky Knows, who's a half-sister to six-time graded stakes winner Maxzene (Cozzene). |
