Fund staff has mailed out 325 award checks for the first period of 2013 totaling more than $1.3 million.
A handful of checks were held back from the mailing because recipients need to supply us with a completed W-9. You can pick up W-9 forms at most U.S. Post Offices and public libraries. You can also use the link below to access the form on our website:
Please note that the Fund mails award checks only to the individual who is named first as the breeder with both the Fund and the Jockey Club (it must be the same in both places). It will be up to that person to divide the money appropriately according to their partnership agreement, and to furnish 1099’s to the IRS and the partners when award money is shared.
In the future, foal nomination and stallion nomination forms will specify that we need a W-9 form on file in order to mail your check.
Also, potential recipients should keep Fund staff informed if they have changed any portion of their contact information: mailing address, e-mail address, phone and fax numbers. This will help us make sure your checks reach you as soon as possible.
Please note that the checks are not negotiable after 180 days!
On behalf of everyone on the Fund staff, I wish you the best of luck in the foaling barn, in the stallion shed and on the racetrack.
