New York Thoroughbred Breeding Fund Sends Award Checks

Dear Stakeholders,

The New York Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund on May 4th sent out more than $1.5 million in breeder, owner and stallion owner awards that were earned during the second period (March-April) of 2015. Note that awards are paid at a 90% rate to ensure that we have adequate funds to pay all of our awards throughout the year, with the 10% holdback expected to be returned in full in 2016. The 100% award amount for the period is $1,711,365.63.

$ Awarded (90%)# of Awards
Breeder$1,085,047.31484
Stallion$254,247.75228
Owner$200,934.0067
$1,540,229.06779

As you can see in the chart above, NY-breds running at NYRA in March and April generated 484 breeder awards by finishing first through third. Slightly fewer than half of the award earners were sired by stallions standing in New York the year in which the runners were conceived, generating 228 stallion owner award payments. And 67 owner awards were earned by horses placing in open-company races with a minimum claiming price of $30,000.

Thanks to all award earners for helping to fulfil the Breeding Fund’s mission statement: “To promote by monetary incentives the responsible breeding of quality Thoroughbred racehorses in keeping with the founding legislation to preserve New York’s irreplaceable farmland.

Sincerely,

Tracy Egan, Executive Director
