Award Checks, NY-Breds in the BC, NY Mares at Keeneland

Dear Stakeholders,

This is a busy and exciting week for the New York Thoroughbred industry. We have five representatives in the World Championship Breeders’ Cup races in California, many NY resident mares are heading to the auction block at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, and the NY Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund is issuing more than 2,200 awards totaling more than $2.8 million. The chart below reflects the 90% of the award money earned by your horses during September and October. The Fund holds back 10% of award money to ensure that all earners are paid at an equal rate throughout the year. We hope to return that 10% hold-back money in January.

Award Type         $ Awarded (90%)        # of Awards

Breeder                $2,074,032.69                    1,328

Stallion                 $496,540.08                        744

Owner                   $245,395.98                         191

Total                     $2,815,968.75                     2,263

On our website (NYBreds.com) you will find a wonderful piece written by Bill Heller on the fantastic five NY-breds who will be representing our state at Santa Anita in the Breeders’ Cup ‒ Effinex, Haveyougoneaway, Wonder Gal, Syndergaard and Mind Your Biscuits. Click here to read the article.

For those of you who are interested in upgrading your breeding stock with an eye on resident NY mares, you can find a list on our site here of the mares that have applied for leaves of absence for the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale that gets underway next week.

I know you all join me in wishing the BC entrants a safe trip on Friday and Saturday, with fingers crossed for our NY-breds to visit the winner’s circle.

Cordially,

Tracy Egan, Executive Director
