The Finger Lakes Futurity Series consists of three stakes races for NY-bred two-year-olds: the Aspirant for colts, the Lady Finger for fillies and the New York Breeders’ Futurity for horses of either sex.
Only foals born in the current year (weanlings) are eligible for nomination to the Futurity Series through the Breeding Fund (for a $125 fee).
In the event that a foal has not been nominated during its foaling year, it can still be nominated through December 31st of its yearling year (for the same $125 fee) or through April 1st of its two-year-old year (for a fee of $150). To nominate a yearling or two-year-old to the Futurity Series, contact the Finger Lakes Racing Secretary’s office at 585-924-3232 ext. 388 or by e-mail at [email protected] for a nomination form.
For foals of 2018 and 2019, once the foal has been nominated to the series, supplemental payments are due on or before May 31st and July 31st of the horse’s two-year-old season to remain eligible for these races. Late payments are not accepted. Finger Lakes will mail a reminder letter to the owner/breeder on file. If a foal has changed hands since being nominated, please contact the Finger Lakes Racing Secretary’s office as specified above.
The May 31st supplemental payment during the foal’s two-year-old year (for foals of 2018 and 2019) is $425 ($250/Futurity + $175/Aspirant or Lady Finger). The supplemental payment can be made for just one race, but eligibility for the race that is not paid for will be forfeited.
The July 31st supplemental payment during the foal’s two-year-old year (for foals of 2018 and 2019) is $650 ($400/Futurity + $250/Aspirant or Lady Finger).
Beginning with foals of 2020, no further payments beyond the $125 nomination fee will be required to maintain a foal’s eligibility for the Futurity Series races.
